Paris, France (AHN) -- A 12-year-old girl who miraculously survived a plane crash off the coast of Comoros Islands is well and talked to her father and uncle Wednesday from a hospital bed in Moroni. Paris-based Kassim Bakari, father of the survivor named Baya, quoted her daughter as telling him by phone that she was thrown into the waters when the Yemenia plane crashed into the Indian Ocean while trying to land at an airport in Comoros' largest island of Njazidja. "She said, 'Papa, we saw the plane going down in the water. I was in the dark, I couldn't see a thing. On top of that, daddy, I can't swim well and I held on to something, but don't really know what'," the elder Bakari told French radio RTL, according to BBC. "I never thought she would escape like that," BBC quoted the father as saying. The girl's uncle, Ali Abdou, visited Baya in the hospital and also talked to her. "She is conscious, speaking well, [she] is okay. She was joking, she was chatting, we laughed together," Abdou told BBC. Baya was among 153 people, including her mother, aboard the Yemenia plane flying from Sanaa, Yemen to Moroni when it crashed amid bad weather for still unknown reasons. Rescuers found her clinging to debris about two hours after the crash and took her to a hospital. The girl suffered a fractured collarbone, burns and minor cuts and bruises. A French government plane will take her to Paris for further treatment.
