Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (AHN) -- Malaysia introduced its first self-cleaning public toilets located in the Kuala Lumpur shopping district. The move is in preparations for a major tourism campaign next year. Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak said the new toilets with their various facilities would be welcomed by visitors to the country. Najib said clean toilets determined a country's level of civilization. "People say toilets represent the level of development of a country," Najib said in his speech. "The adequate number of toilets, quality and maintenance of public washrooms are a benchmark of the infrastructural development of a country," he said. The new toilets are air-conditioned and are outfitted with a seat cleaner that automatically cleans after every use. The facilities also include a baby change station and seats for children. Consumers will be charged one ringgit or $0.28 dollars per use. The government is hoping to place 23 toilets around Kuala Lumpur, more so in major shopping districts and tourist sites. "I think this is a very good effort, especially to help the disabled people," said Oslo holidaymaker Spencer Kaurin.
