Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- The search to find the next hit TV show "a la American Idol" is nearly finished with its first stage.

The search is called Pilot Project and has been touring cities in the US listening to average Joes and Janes pitch what they think will be the next hot TV show.

The tour will wrap up August 23-24 in Los Angeles. The top 150 entries will be voted online at pilotproject.tv, and the final winner will have a pilot made and be pitched to networks.

Ruben Navarrete, president of Effects Productions, the company conducting the search, says the radical approach is necessary because, "people say there's a lot of crap out there."

So far, Navarrete says there's been a mix of good and bad pitches. He says one bad entry titled "Miss Kitty's Castle" was deemed "too risque" because one of Miss Kitty's boobs kept popping out of her bustiers.
