Two men in a rowboat came to his house and offered to take him to safety. "No thanks," the man said, "God will help me."

As the water level rapidly increased, the man retreated to the second storey of his house. Next, two men in a motorboat came to his house and offered to take him to safety. Again the man turned the offer down and said, "No thank you, God will help me."

As the water rose even higher, the man found it necessary to retreat to the roof of his house. A helicopter came by and someone inside it threw down a rope, urging the man to take hold of it and be pulled up into the helicopter. The man declined again and said, "No thank you, God will help me."

Suddenly, a mighty voice bellowed out to the man, "You idiot! I've already sent you a rowboat, a motorboat and a helicopter. What more do you want me to do?"
